Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 2 and 1/4 tsp dry active yeast (1 packet)
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1/3 cup Greek yogurt
  • Extra 12 tsp of water (if needed for dough consistency)
  • 23 tsp butter (for brushing)
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1 tbsp fresh cilantro, minced

Instructions

1. Activate the Yeast

  1. In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy. This ensures your yeast is active and ready.

2. Prepare the Dough

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Mix well.
  2. Add the activated yeast mixture, olive oil, and Greek yogurt to the flour. Stir until the dough starts to come together.
  3. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for 8-10 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic. If the dough feels dry, add 1-2 tsp of water as needed.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise for 1-2 hours until it doubles in size.

3. Shape the Naan

  1. Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 8 equal portions.
  2. Roll each portion into a ball, then flatten into an oval or round shape about 1/4-inch thick.

4. Cook the Garlic Naan

  1. Heat a cast-iron skillet or non-stick pan over medium-high heat.
  2. Place the rolled dough onto the hot skillet. Cook for 1-2 minutes, until bubbles form on the surface and the bottom is golden brown.
  3. Flip and cook the other side for 1-2 minutes.
  4. Remove from heat and brush with melted butter mixed with minced garlic and fresh cilantro.
