Tips for the best churros

  • Make sure to get rid of any air pockets in the piping bag. This will ensure the dough comes out smoother
  • Use a large star tip Wilton 1M
  • Use a candy thermometer or deep fry thermometer to measure the temperature of the oil. 340F/170C is the best temp to have the oil at so you don’t over or under cook the churros.
  • Depending on the size of the pot you use, only fry 3-5 at a time.
  • Prepare your sugar rub and plate with napkins first. Churros cook fairly fast and you want to roll them while they are still warm.
  • No piping bag or tip? Use a Ziploc bag and cut a hole at the end. They won’t have the classic churro shape but they will still be tasty!

Can you bake churros instead of frying them?

Yes!

If you want to bake churros instead of frying them, preheat your oven to 400F/200C. Pipe the dough onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.

Roll in the cinnamon sugar mixture and serve with dipping sauces.

They will of course be a bit different than fried churros, but they will still be delicious!

How to store churros

Churros are best enjoyed fresh, but if you have leftovers, you can store them in an airtight container at room temperature for a day or two.

How to freeze churros

You can also freeze churros for up to a month. Just place them in an airtight freezer bag.

Reheat in the oven for 10 minutes.

You can also freeze the churro dough. Just transfer the dough to a freezer safe bag for up to 3 months! Thaw completely then fry or bake.
